History has been made by the freshmen class of 2021 by not only excelling as people but excelling in the classroom by completing both Honor Algebra 2 and Honor Geometry.

What started out as a way to make good use of time during PARCC testing last year, turned into a life changing experience for a group of 43 STEM students.  Mrs. Prosperi, STEM technology teacher found herself and her students displaced to the auditorium during testing.  To make good use of this time, she showed the movie, Freedom Writers  to her technical writing students.  The students were so interested in this that the movie blossomed into our "Teaching Tolerance" program.  The students , through a grant from the Morris Rubell Foundation, spent a day in October meeting with survivors at the Holocaust Museum, The Lincoln Memorial and The MLK  Statue.  What a day!  This past Friday, some of these students had the opportunity to meet with about 200 other students from around the State to talk about what they learned and present in the form of songs, poems, and presentations.  Once again, survivors were  part of the presentation and joined our students for lunch and learn.  Lives were changed, this time for the better through this wonderful program.

April 26, 2018 – A professional dancer, Maria del Mar Valle Figueroa, visited students from JFK’s Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Academy.  Miss Figueroa is 16 years old and is the reigning world champion in salsa dancing.  She has been dancing competitively since she was four years of age.  During her visit today, she danced the salsa and shared with the Ms. Young Suh’s music appreciation students how she enjoys dancing salsa.  She also shared with the group how one needs to be disciplined in juggling schoolwork and rigorous rehearsals.  STEM is grateful for her visit and we wish her the very best in her future.
