Hello STEM students and parents,

I welcome you to the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the John F. Kennedy Educational Complex.  It has been my pleasure and privilege to serve STEM as Supervisor, Vice Principal, and now Interim Principal of this wonderful school.  STEM has been serving the students of Paterson from almost 23 years by providing rigorous academic programs in the STEM fields as well as learning experiences that go far beyond the classroom.  In just the past few weeks, students have participated in data gathering on birds for the Audubon Society, a video conference with scientists studying weather on Antarctica,  Rutgers University Young Engineers Day, and  a talk with neuroscientists from William Paterson University.

Another important part of STEM is our plan for helping students become resilient young people who don’t shy away from a challenge.  Our multi-year plan includes activities that inspire and challenge our students to run toward difficult tasks rather than run away from them.  Our program moves beyond focusing on discreet skills and, instead, helps to nurture academic fortitude, “outside of the box” thinking, and academic risk-taking; skills that will serve our students well into their college and professional lives.

The faculty of STEM is humbled and proud to be working with the great students of STEM; all of whom do amazing things on a daily basis.  Thanks to all the STEM parents for putting your trust in us.

Thank you,

Dr. Dante Petretti
